Case reports

Murphy, cruciate ligament rupture, first on the right knee, then on the left 3 months later. He needed some additional painkillers for the first few days after the injury especially when the second ligament went, but went through rehabilitation with acupuncture as the only pain relief. He was comfortable and therefore able to build up again the strength of the muscles in his back legs. Six years later approaching 17 years of age Murphy gets treated regularly for aches and pains associated with his age, also to stimulate his appetite and help his digestion which both seem to be affected by decreased kidney function.

Jaffa, maintained with acupuncture for 2 years after her 30th birthday in retirement with multiple problems: severe chronic periodic inflammation of the eyes; osteoarthritis in most joints, diarrhoea in the winter, skin irritations, liver problems. In spite of all these health issues Jaffa was enjoying life out on pasture and had a good appetite. There were periods during flare-ups when she needed treatment more frequently but often intervals were months apart; once even 5 months. One day she badly injured her suspensory ligament grazing in the field and was not able to walk and had to be put down. At that point her digestive issues were much better and she looked in better condition than the year before.

Reggie, used to be an over-active Springer Spaniel until at the age of eleven he ruptured his right cruciate ligament . With progressing age he developed arthritis in that knee and in many other joints. Muscle bulk and strength were dwindling and therefore he frequently lost his footing and then found it difficult to get up again. Apart from the acupuncture he was treated with anti-inflammatory painkillers, joint supplements and hydro-therapy. He passed away before his 15th birthday and his owners thanked me for making the last weeks of his life a lot more comfortable.
